Oxford Downs missed a golden opportunity to end their fears of being relegated from Division 1 on Saturday.
Downs dismissed Cumnor for only 119, but then amazingly succumbed for just 89 themselves as their hosts guaranteed their Division 1 status.
Lester Smart (3-27) and Daryl Johnson (3-28) exploited some bowler-friendly conditions to put Cumnor in trouble.
But Carl Thompson led a stirring fightback after tea by taking 3-32 as the visitors lost wickets at regular intervals.
Downs are home to mid-table Oxford 2nd on Saturday, while their nearest rivals Bourton Vale play host to Cumnor.
- Cumnor 25pts, Oxford Downs 5
Great & Little Tew condemned Challow & Childrey to relegation after a 21-run victory.
A heroic effort by Challow paceman David Slade, who took 7-57, saw Tew bowled out for 166 with Matt Woods undefeated on 36.
Nigel Hume (64) and Nigel Hill (35) put the visitors in contention, but Antony Smith took 4-34 and Woods 3-53 as they tumbled to 145 all out.
- Great & Little Tew 25, Challow & Childrey 7
National Village Cup finalists Shipton-under-Wychwood maintained their fine form ahead of their preparations for Lord’s on September 12 by beating Bletchley Town with ease.
Veteran left-arm spinner Shaun Miller claimed 4-22 from 7.4 overs as Town tumbled to 100 all out in the 35th over.
Skipper Simon Hole (39) then set up Shipton’s 102-3 in reply.
- Shipton-under-Wychwood 25, Bletchley Town 4
Sandford St Martin’s Division 2 promotion hopes ended when Leighton Buzzard Town beat them by three wickets to book the runners-up spot for themselves.
Paul Tew (64) was the mainstay of Sandford’s innings, before Greg Pearson’s 36 not out saw them reach a competitive 205-7.
James Risbridger (5-54) kept Sandford in the hunt, but Jack Kempster (47no) led his side to 207-7.
The home side lost one point for their slow over rate, although the result made that academic.
- Sandford St Martin 10pts, Buzzard Tn 25
Oxford Downs 2nd must win at Witney Mills and hope Aston Rowant 2nd fail to beat Bledlow Village if they are to go up from Division 3.
On Saturday they easily beat Kingston Bagpuize as Will Sandbach (46), Steve Roberts (45), Noel Pearson (43) and Ian Caunce (31) piled on the runs in Downs’ 244 all out.
Dave Pearce took 5-86 for Bagpuize, who were then out for 142 as only Martin Shepherd (41) threatened.
- Ox Downs 2nd 25, K Bagpuize 6
Darren Gordon took 5-10 and Andy Claridge 5-35 as Witney Mills blasted out Bledlow Village for only 99.
Mills edged their way to 100-4 in the 42nd over.
- Bledlow Village 4, Witney Mills 25
Ben Keeping (7-32) was too good for Hanborough’s batsmen as the home side were bowled out by Bledlow Ridge for 98.
Only Will Potter (31) held up the visitors for long.
Earlier Ridge had managed 197, Mike Dove took 3-31 and Aaron Hobley 3-49.
- Hanborough 5, Bledlow Ridge 25
Great & Little Tew 2nd beat Didcot to secure the Division 5 title and end their opponents’ hopes of a top-two finish.
Kevin Taylor took 5-46 as Didcot were bowled out for 128, with Simon Pritchard’s 33 the only contribution of note.
Ben Millard (37) and Andy Darby (35) then helped steer Tew to 129-5 – and the championship.
- Didcot 6pts, Gt & Little Tew 2nd 25
Didcot’s demise means Shipton-under-Wychwood 2nd will finish as runners-up – and they did so without playing a game.
Their match at Tiddington 2nd was a victim of the weather.
- Tiddington 2nd 6, Shipton 2nd 6
