RUGBY UNION: Strugglers Witney fall to defeat
4:54pm Wednesday 25th January 2012
Witney's poor start to the year continued with a 17-10 defeat at relegation-threatened Swanage & Wareham in South West 1 East.
They improved on the 38-0 home loss to Salisbury last week, but were left frustrated.
Scrum half Chris Tomes and hooker Robert Elford scored Swanage’s tries, with wing Charlie Parish converting both and adding a penalty.
Witney’s tries came from debutant centre Matt Clarke and flanker Carl Campbell.
They are now just seven points off the relegation zone.
Captain Jez Hicks said: “It was a much better performance from everyone, but we didn’t quite do enough.
“We conceded a very easy try in the first half and that ultimately cost us as we lost by seven points, but we will get it back together.”
